Journey So far... (1 year update)

On 6th January 2010,Nayanajyothi Trust was registered with 3 Trustees. Mr. Jayaraman attending the The trustees planned to pilot the initiatives in Tamilnadu and Karnataka to start with and expand the model later to other places. In the course of next six months Mr. Jayaraman and Mr.Ravikumar met most of the important persons connected with Eye Banking in south India. We met Dr. G N Rao, of LV Prasad eye Institute, Dr.Usha Gopinathan, President EBAI, Mr.Ganesh, Executive Director-EBAI, Dr.Badrinath, Sankara Nethralaya, Dr.Srinivasan, Aravind Eye Care, Dr.Ramani, Sankara eye care, Dr. Bhujanga Shetty, Narayana Nethralaya, Dr. Mohan Rajan, Rotary Rajan Eye Bak, Dr.M S Ravindra, Karthik Nethralaya, Padmashree Lion BS Murthy, Lions Eye Hospital, Bangalore, Fr.Sebastin Vadakambalam and Dr.Aneeta jabbar of Little flower Hospital, Angamaly and many others. It may not be exaggerating to say that every recognized eye banking person in South India have been met and these interactions shaped our thoughts to come up with few innovative Programs.

 

Having done some preliminary research by visiting few major Eye-banks that are part of well established Eye-care institutions in South India, discussing with leading Ophthalmology professionals and interacting with Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI), the trustees are of the view that there is a disconnect between awareness creation about eye donation, pledges collection and actual eye donation. Hence Nayanajyothi came up with the vision Creating Targeted Awareness through Technology to enhance Eye donation Nayanajyothi's journey started by Continuing Medical Education program on Eye Banking during December 2009 at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. He had many interactions with experts in the field, who explained the many issues involved in eye donation. On 6th January 2010,Nayanajyothi Trust was registered with 3 Trustees.
